Ontario needs a consumer watchdog.

The Ford Government’s price gouging hotline has received tens of thousands of consumer complaints without a single charge being laid.

Ontario’s current consumer protection system is inadequate and leaves consumers confused and unprotected, not knowing where to turn when they fall victim to a scam, or are otherwise ripped off.

Far too often, instead of receiving the help they need, consumers who file a consumer protection complaint in Ontario are ultimately told to “get a lawyer."

The Ontario Consumer Watchdog Act would fix Ontario's consumer protection system by:

  • Handling all consumer complaints
  • Investigating businesses and other entities, either independently or based upon a customer complaint
  • Releasing public reports on consumer protection matters
  • Having the ability to punish or fine those who violate of consumer protection laws.
