Ontario lags far behind on vaccine plans

QUEEN’S PARK — On Friday, the government revealed its vaccine task force will hold its “inaugural” meeting Friday afternoon — just 10 days before vaccine rollout plans are due, and after other provinces have already released their plans.

“Doug Ford waited until the eleventh hour to get started on a vaccine plan,” said Sara Singh, NDP Deputy Leader.

“Finding out that the task force is just meeting for the very first time today is going to make folks pretty anxious – we’ve always known the vaccine was the light at the end of the tunnel. Why did Ford wait for today to get started?”

The federal government has told provinces they need to have plans completed by Dec. 14 – just 10 days from now. Other provinces have already released their plans.

The Official Opposition New Democrats have called for a clear and orderly plan that puts vulnerable people and front-line workers at the top of the priority list for being vaccinated; and has called on Ford to have public health experts call the shots, not politicians.
